Purely Piedmont's Roots

Purely Piedmont believes in the power of agriculture to unite, inspire, and sustain.

Our mission is to be the catalyst that transforms the way people perceive, appreciate, and engage with the world of farming and agritourism, ensuring a vibrant and enduring future for both producers and consumers alike.

In early 2017, the Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission conducted a branding study to develop a local foods brand name and logo for the region.  Following stakeholder interviews, a consumer survey and public input sessions, the Region’s Food Policy Council selected “Purely Piedmont.”

Feedback indicated that consumers strongly value knowing where their food comes from, with 75% of survey respondents stating it would make them much more likely to buy local food.  The chosen name is intended to provide that knowledge and evoke the fresh and wholesome qualities consumers associate with the region’s locally-grown food.

In 2023, the decision was made to retire 'Tween Rivers Trail, a similar local marketing brand focusing on agritourism locations and activities throughout the region. As a result, 'Tween Rivers Trail members have merged with Purely Piedmont as a comprehensive brand of food and beverage producers, artisans, and agritourism locations and activities.

Visit the Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission's food system webpage for additional information about the Rappahannock-Rapidan's Food Policy Council's activities, and the regional food system plan that started it all.
